PRICING

Ontario Dirtworks provides the following pricing in order to fulfill our commitment to full transparency. The pricing is designed to provide honest and fair rates as determined by the scenarios outlined below, and as indicated, are subject to change based on the specifics of each job.

Grading/levelling

Ontario Dirtworks provides residential dirt work for a variety of applications, including land grading, lawn levelling and shaping, and preparation work for concrete pads, patio stones, driveways, and other residential pavings.

Price Per Hour: $80

Minimum Charge: $400

Our free, no obligation estimate will be based on the Minimum Charge, which accounts for the initial four (4) hours of work time and one (1) hour of travel time, with all additional hours billed at the Price Per Hour rate.

Estimate will reflect the approximated time to complete the grading or levelling, working with relatively clean soil. However, should poor soil conditions exist, with the presence of an inordinate number of rocks, roots, construction debris, etc., additional time may be necessary. Homeowner is informed that the estimate will be adjusted in final billing to reflect any additional time. Please note that we reserve the right at our discretion to ‘under certain conditions’ reduce or wave the Minimum Charge.

Trenching/EXCAVATIONS

Ontario Dirtworks provides residential trenching and excavation for a variety of applications, including basement waterproofing, pier-and-beam foundations, retaining walls, drainage lines, privately installed electrical wires and cables, gas lines, plumbing and sewage lines, as well as soil preparation for water features, and more.

Price Per Hour: $80

Minimum Charge: $400

Our free, no obligation estimate will be based on the Minimum Charge, which accounts for the initial four (4) hours of work time and one (1) hour of travel time, with all additional hours billed at the Price Per Hour rate.

Estimate will reflect the approximated time to complete the excavation, working with relatively clean soil, up-to a maximum depth of six (6) feet. However, should poor soil conditions exist, including large rocks and/or substantial tree roots, the requested depth may require additional efforts to achieve, possibly to include hand digging. Homeowner is informed that the estimate will be adjusted in final billing to reflect any additional time and/or labour, including a surcharge for hand digging when applicable.

Please note that backfilling of trenches and/or excavations will be billed at the Price Per Hour rate if backfilled the same day, or will be billed as an additional Minimum Charge if we are required to return for backfilling any other day. We reserve the right at our discretion to ‘under certain conditions’ reduce or wave the Minimum Charge.

Post hole Digging

Ontario Dirtworks provides hole digging of 8″, 10″ and 12″ holes for a variety of applications, including footings for decks, sheds and pergolas, for fence posts, privacy walls, bollards, flagpoles, mailbox poles, basketball hoops, clothesline poles, sign posts, trees and more.

Price Per Hole:

Augered 8” hole: $30 each
Augered 10” hole: $40 each
Augered 12” hole: $50 each

Hand Digging Surcharge: +$100/per hole

Minimum Charge: $400

Our free, no obligation estimate will be based on the Price Per Hole rate, as determined by the size of each hole, and will include a Minimum Charge. Homeowner is informed that the Minimum Charge will include one (1) hour of setup/breakdown time, as well as a total of one (1) hour of travel time, together accounting for $160 of the Minimum Charge.

Estimate will reflect the approximated price to dig the hole(s), working with relatively clean soil, up-to a maximum depth of four (4) feet. However, should poor soil conditions exist, including rocks, tree roots, or construction debris, though we will make a reasonable effort to drill to the requested depth, it may require additional time and effort to achieve, possibly to include hand digging. Homeowner is informed that the estimate will be adjusted in final billing to reflect any additional time and/or labour, including a Hand Digging Surcharge when applicable.

Please note that under certain conditions (eg, soil containing large rocks or boulders) the requested depth of any given hole may be unachievable with the auger or by hand digging. Should this occur, homeowner will have the option to either agree to a lessor depth, or instruct that another hole be drilled in an alternate location, as specified by the homeowner. Should homeowner elect the latter, final billing will reflect the digging of both the abandoned hole (if significant time and/or labour was expended) and the addition of the alternate hole, both of which will be billed at the Price Per Hole rate. We reserve the right at our discretion to ‘under certain conditions’ reduce or wave the Minimum Charge.

IMPORTANT: Homeowner is responsible for ensuring all public AND private underground infrastructure has been located and marked, as well as marking the location of the proposed dirt work, prior to our arrival at job site. Regarding drilling of holes, we recommend the homeowner either place a marker or use spray paint (recommended) to indicate the location of each hole. Ontario Dirtworks acknowledges that PUBLIC locates and the associated field markings are mandated by provincial law, and that we are jointly responsible with the homeowner to assure they are both complete and current on the scheduled day of the dig. Dirt work CANNOT commence until all locates and field markings, public AND private, have been confirmed by our equipment operator.

Prices QUOTED ABOVE reflect A BASE ESTIMATE, DO NOT INCLUDE HST, and are subject to change based on job details.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE: Before we break ground on your project, in order to make sure that digging is both safe and legal, we request that you FIRST contact Ontario One Call, the public safety administrative authority which operates a FREE ‘public utility locate service’, in order to submit the mandatory “Locate Request”. We recommend contacting them no less than one week prior to digging, as they will in turn notify the various utility companies with buried infrastructure on your property, to both inform them that we intend to dig, and to request that each utility company provide you, the homeowner, with the related locate, either by way of a physical document or digitally, in the form of an email.

Once the Locate Request has been filed, a representative from each utility company, known as a Damage Prevention Technician (i.e., Locator), or an authorized Locate Service Provider (LSP), will come to your home to mark the location of the various, buried utilities. We cannot over emphasize the importance of getting this step accomplished prior to ANY digging, in order to protect buried, public utility cables, pipes and wires, and for the safety of both yourself, your family and neighbours, as well as our equipment operators. Please consider that Ontario One Call does not physically mark the cables, pipes, or wires, rather the various utility companies, as stated above, locate the buried infrastructure, mark them, and relay the dig information to you, the homeowner, in the form of a public locate.

WHEN YOU SEE COLOURED FLAGS AND/OR PAINT, WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

When the various utility companies have identified their underground infrastructure and have provided the associated locates, the locates will be attended by field markings, usually stakes, flags, and/or paint. These field markings come in different colours, as seen below, to help identify which utility type (electrical line, gas line, communication line, etc.) is buried in the specified location. Digging cannot commence until ALL public utility companies have completed their locates and related field markings.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE: While Ontario One Call operates the notification system for buried PUBLIC infrastructure, on both public and private property, it’s the sole responsibility of the homeowner to have the following types of buried PRIVATE infrastructure located and marked before the dig.

  • Gas line that goes from a house to a BBQ or pool heater
  • Lights or signs on the property
  • Electrical lines going out to sheds or a detached garage
  • Sewer and septic tanks, systems and piping
  • Telecom or electrical lines feeding security cameras
  • Water well and supply line to home
  • Sprinkler systems
  • Etc.

PLEASE BE ADVISED: Ontario Dirtworks will not be held liable for any damage to public OR private underground infrastructure that has not been documented, located, and marked by an Ontario One Call member (i.e., Infrastructure Owner/Utility Company) or their authorized LSP, for public infrastructure, or the homeowner and/or private locate company, for private infrastructure.

DID YOU KNOW?: Whether you are building a fence or a deck, planting a tree, digging a new garden, or doing any project that requires digging in Ontario, Ontario One Call must be contacted before the dig can commence.
